Thanks for the Schoolboy Heart Jimmy

Jimmy Buffett’s death hit me harder than I would have thought this morning. Some of it is selfish. We are the same age.
But I also have a lot of years of music and concerts with him.
I never saw him put on a bad show, indoors or outdoors.
My worst concert was when our group decided to live the Margarita life before and during the concert and I spent half of it in line for drinks or in line for the john. I didn’t do that again.
It was also about that time that I was at work and somebody casually mentioned that a coworker had slept with Jimmy Buffett.
I was in awe. Now remember, Jimmy played college clubs for years for a few hundred people before he hit it big.
I went up and asked her and she said yes, with no big reaction. He had played a college club that night, he partied with her group afterward, and they hooked up. It was no big deal but you had to be there, it was the way it was long ago.
She had no details and I didn’t press her.
My most recent Jimmy concert was at Coors Field where he was the first act, I wouldn’t call it warm up, for The Eagles. He had to come on early and crowd was somewhat sparse but he was into it and as strong as ever.
I naturally thing his songwriting is underrated. While I became almost allergic to Margaritaville over the years, I loved lots of his songs, some quite obscure.
I do think Schoolboy Heart sums him up the best.
When you look at his legacy, for me it comes down to a quality that is not appreciated enough.
Fun.
The man made fun, had fun and was fun.
Fun.
