I was listening to Sirius yesterday and “The Story” by Brandi Carlile came on.

It prompted a special memory.

E Town is a popular radio show out of Boulder hosted by Nick and Helen Forster.

They brought it to Fort Collins and the Lincoln Center some years back.

On the bill that night was an unknown named Brandi Carlile.

After a brief chat and with only one other musician, Brandi sang The Story.

It started off soft and then all of a sudden this incredible voice reached volume. Whoa. Then as it built toward the end with softer tones she cut loose again, even stronger.

The song ended.

The audience was so stunned the applause was less roaring and more open wonder.

Nick, who has seen and heard everybody and everything, was speechless for a moment and then said something like “Well’. There was nothing to say.

Moments like that happen with music which is why I love it, but a few standout from the pack.

This was one of them.
