A vivid reminder today how geography is so important in opinions and biases and prejudices in sports coverage.

Colorado State knocked off Virginia in basketball last night in the NCAA tournament.

Virginia was a controversial play-in team because of their performance this season so I knew it would fairly draw attention today, in addition to how awful they played.

I surfed a variety of cable sports shows.

Each one had mouthpieces who picked Virginia to win of course. And they ripped Virginia for playing so bad. None hardly even mentioned how well Colorado State played.

My favorite was the show where they never even mentioned Colorado State was the opponent!

Now almost all of these talkers were east coast.

The one exception? Woody Paige from Colorado who pointed out how well Colorado State played and how they probably shouldn’t even have been a play-in team in the first place. The panel was a wall of silence.

They never saw Colorado State play for sure and they could care less.

So predictable and so wrong.
