Online nastiness is beyond sad

Peggy Noonan had one her almost always good and thoughtful columns today. This one is about what
online has done to our children.
But it isn’t just children that live with the fast and loose world of online comment.
I remember some years back when I was teaching, there was a site to rate professors.
I always had decent ratings but I checked in one day and found a student who had ripped me a new asshole about how terrible I was.
I remember checking the partial name given and I remembered I had caught them cheating.
Now even if I could or wanted to get into an online pissing match and get the kid, I would never do that.
I learned, and still live by, taking a deep breath when you think something is to negative, and let it go.
And I remember the bottom line of defense…….just don’t look.
But that’s hard and so hard for kids.
