More blood, more gore, a sad development

Moviemakers have shown increasing sensitivity to various situations in their writing and visual scenes.
Much less cutting edge writing and scenes that some find offensive.
But just this week I was reminded about one taboo that isn’t a taboo. Horrible gore.
The new Terrifier movie is supposed to have new levels of gory scenes and buckets of bloods.
I enjoyed the first Smile movie and saw the second one yesterday.
The story was pretty good but the horrible scenes of bodies being ripped apart and blood everwhere were way, way too much to watch. I just started turning my head when I saw it coming.
And just a couple weeks ago I went to see the Substance only to be repelled by the bloody, explicit grossness on the screen.
Remember when horror movies used to suggest violence and gore instead of wallowing in it?
Critics, people who I more and more hope to never actually be in the same room with, gave all of these movies I mention high praise on Rotten Tomatoes.
There is something really weird at a time when when cultural sensitivity and not offending people is on the mind of so many filmmakers, that all bets are off on watching knives rip through eyes and cut faces off.
A bad trend for many reasons.
I kind of wish the industry would turn that antennae on gore.
