Vote and count in advance

After we moved to Kansas around the turn of the century (that still sounds weird”, I remember getting off work to go vote and standing in shitty weather at the polls and not enjoying.
Shortly thereafter they said you can start voting by mail.
Holy shit was that better. I would mark choices I was sure of. I would research others at leisure and then make a decision. Finally, after getting no help on judge retention and just voting against all of them, I would mail off that ballot.
Glorious.
When me moved to Colorado mail voting was already in place so I haven’t voted on election day in at least 20 years.
What strikes me as strange are states that don’t count these ballots ahead of time. Again I have lived where they tally them all and have them ready by the time election day rolls around.
But some states not only don’t tally them in advance, they don’t even start counting them on election day.
That strikes me as truly bizarre, not to say stupid.
Given the highly charged political climate, I think all votes cast before election day should be counted before election day and announced on election day. And then let’s move as quickly as possible to finish the count.
This strikes as something easily fixable in a world of complications.
