I haven’t seen four of the movies nominated for best picture at the Oscars.
Of the six I’ve seen, I have opinions.
My rating from 6 to 1.
6. Substance. It was hard to watch and it got harder as the movie progressed. No matter how worthy a message might be, if it is unpleasant to watch, I don’t want to watch.
5. Conclave. Entertaining, good acting, and really implausible. I think the writer if given a choice over depending on Cardinals or prisoners, would choose the latter. I was disappointed. But I did watch it again on cable after seeing it in the theater.
4. Brutalist. First half was intriguing, it drew me in. After the intermission, I think the cold center of this film just fell short. I would never watch it gain no matter how well it was made.
3. Wicked. Very pleasant to watch. I did keep thinking that it took almost three hours to get us to what is intermission at the play. I guess I should be grateful they aren’t going to divide the last half into two three hour movies.
2. Dune. Well done. Acting, story, the whole package. I’m almost surprised it was nominated.
- Complete Unknown. I would give this an Oscar in a blink. I do have to admit by Dylan obsession makes me not very objective. I did think the scenes of Dakota Fanning crying and looking sorrowful from the performance wings were way to overdone. Still, I really loved this movie.
