You gotta friend: A rare moment on a cable sports show

I was scrolling through the cable channels and about to push past the screaming and yelling on a sports show when I noticed a young boy on another sports channel.

I watched as this 13 year old autistic boy, the same age as my grandson, came on to the set where his dad works. He walked around touching and talking and then he sat down and said he wanted to sing.

This young sweet voice with a Woody puppet in hand breaks out into Randy Newman’s wonderful song from Toy Story, You Got a Friend in Me.

I started tearing up. They did show his dad and the other hosts tearing up and standing frozen.

It was just such a genuine moment in a world where too often we focus on things that don’t really matter.

When he finished they had the good sense to cutaway and let it speak for itself.

A rare moment to give us pause on what really counts.
