No Eddington in these Covid memories

I read about the new movie Eddington and about how people acted during Covid. It is ugly and negative of course.

And there was much sadness and tragedy during those tough times.

But it got me to thinking about things that came from the Covid shutdown that actually were positive.

Some images:

Daily walks with Mary, followed by daily happy hour on the front and back porches. There is no one in the world who is better to be with in a time of isolation. And of course the friendly waves to people walking past or on the other side of the street as we walked. Like a message that we are alive.

When the vaccine was available and we got our shots. There were old people doing a dance or pumping their fist after the shot. And our calls to family were filled with joy.

Our trip to the drive in when it opened. We saw Invisible Man, When we pulled in the driveway we realized it was our first date night to arrive home in the evening since the madness started. It was strange and wonderful.

And then there was reuniting with family. Our son and his wife and our grandchildren drove up, carefully, from Texas to stay with us for a few weeks. We talked about masks and whether we should wear them at first. We decided let’s just roll the dice.

When they pulled up in the driveway grandson Lucas jumped out of the car and gave me the biggest, longest hug we had ever exchanged. I teared up then and even now just writing this. The human contact with those you love in such a time was is not to ever be forgotten.

So while we tell the stories of what we went through, I prefer to spend more time with the reminders of how it made us stronger and appreciate the things that really matter.
