Fallingwater and Ohiopyle

I’m a Frank Lloyd Wright fan like lots of people.
I’ve admired his architecture in the Chicago suburbs, Milwaukee, Taliesin West. Even a house in St. Louis.
A fun mixed bag. wonderful sightlines, but he was a grumpy gus. Uncomfortable homes didn’t bother him.
On my wish list was Fallingwater in Pennsylvania, and I finally got to go last week
It was worth the drive and effort. Gorgeous. And quirky as always. Wright didn’t believe in screens. The wealthy owners went along with almost all his demands, but balked at that one. Gee, I wonder why. He also didn’t like swimming pools but they did put one off to the side.
It is so remote we made it a weekend and stayed in a nearby small town called Ohiopyle.
That’s right, Ohiopyle, maybe one of the worst names ever.
Ironic, since it is a nice place, right on an unpronounceable white water river, with tons of outdoor activity.
On names. Naturally Wright didn’t name his creation Fallingwater, someone else did. A lovely choice.
It just wouldn’t be the same with a name like, oh say, Ohiopyle.
