Unbroken film made some strange choices

Unbroken is riveting to watch, and while it is long, it is never boring.
The odd part about this movie is the content choices made by the director, Angelina Jolie.
The book on which it is based covered the agony suffered by Louis Zampirini but it also shared a lot of his early years and the years after his return from war.
Jolie’s choice was to make the movie 90 percent suffering and torture, and offers little
of the insight Louis provides in the book about how faith sustained him as he goes through all this pain.
The result is a skillful movie that I have no desire to watch again.
It could have been special and it isn’t, which is shame.
