The Rise of Gru is a big hit, exceeding expectations. Buzz Lightyear did not.

There is no mystery to this for us grandparents who consider Toy Story and Minions a basic family fabric.

The Lightyear movie wasn’t bad. It was well made and entertaining. But Buzz didn’t have any of the Toy Story

characters around him and it just wasn’t on that level of fun and emotion. I probably would not see another

stand alone Buzz movie.

The Rise of Gru was a blast, filled with music and one liners and visual delights. The takeoff of the funeral scene in Big Chill is an out loud laugh. And the whole gang was there. My grandkids and I would watch it again in a blink.
