Wiping out cars doesn’t always fit

I love public transportation. New York makes so much sense. We have ridden BART and it made sense. We have used it all over Europe.
Even in our own not that big hometown, a bus system can be useful to go and from a festival when parking can get overwhelmed.
Planners want us out of cars and are pushing as hard as possible to make that a reality.
The problem comes when public transportation isn’t ready.
Denver is getting a new 265 room hotel in its downtown area. It has no parking.
Not only doesn’t it have parking it discourages anyone from bringing a car to stay there, urging public transportation instead.
That would eliminate me from staying there, public transportation from my home 70 miles north is not practical.
And even for a traveler who arrives by plane and can use public transportation to get near the hotel, lugging bags and time issues can make for an unpleasant trip.
In Fort Collins where I live, planners really like any new development to not having parking spaces. They want you to bike or take the bus. That sounds fine but what about moving around where public transportation doesn’t go? Most people still need a car here.
Honestly I’m mixed on this whole issue. I love public transport when it makes sense.
But I also love my car. I like the freedom. I like the storage. Groceries fit quite nicely. I just don’t think cars have to be thought of as evil.
It seems to me we need to put money into public transportation where it makes sense and will work.
But one size doesn’t fit all and this idea that we are ready now to phase out cars just doesn’t make sense to me.
