You know how sometimes you just love a movie that wasn’t a big hit?
I was surfing the tube this week and stumbled on Ulee’s Gold.
I love Ulee’s Gold. I must have seen it a dozen times and when it comes on a cable movie channel I watch it again.
Peter Fonda, his finest role, is a beekeeper with a troubled family. It gets into drama and scary bad guys but it is still fairly low key. It doesn’t have a fake scene in it.
Set in rural Florida, the casting, acting and really quiet compact dialogue is spot on.
It surprises me it isn’t better known.
You can’t like it as much as I do, but if you get a chance, watch this movie.
As Van Morrison croons in the closing credits, it is a sweet as Tupelo Honey, not in the storyline, which is tough at times, but in the emotional payoff.
