Last summer we went to the Denver Botanical Garden to see Tony Bennett.
It was a magical night. He was in fine form and the crowd was all his. It was just great.
After the last song he was whisked away in a golf kart.
The garden is not exactly a standard concert venue. They have a set of bathrooms in the main building. I decided to make a pit stop on the way out.
As I started into the john with a couple other fellows a security guard stopped us and
Tony Bennett went gliding in. Tony would pee alone.
While Tony did his thing the reversal of bathroom waiting happened when the men’s line began growing while the women’s moved along briskly. Guys coming up into the line were saying “Hey, what’s the deal, we’re men!
Someone would answer “Tony’s peeing.”
This being Colorado, everyone was civil.
Finally, Tony came out smiling and waving and jumped back on his kart. There were fond “Hey Tony” greetings but no one tried to shake hand.
As we filed into the john you knew it was coming as a voice called out from a urinal.
“I wonder if Tony used this one.”
