Oquendo a puzzler

The news about Jose Oquendo taking the year off for knee surgery from being third base coach for the St. Louis Cardinals is a puzzler.
I get that the surgery keeps him off the base coach lines for a good stretch.
But the whole year?
And since he is so key as a communicator with the Latin players, why not have him
with the team as much as he can be, as a communicator?
Finally, I haven’t seen anything from him about all this. No comments at all?
The Post Dispatch should be adding another layer to this story.
