This review is from: Far as the Eye Can See: A Novel (Kindle Edition)
Terrific. Great storytelling in the old west. Fresh, realistic, Bausch has a great eye and ear and we get to enjoy it. One of the best reads I’ve had in a long time and I didn’t see it coming since I picked this up at a bargain price, having never heard of it.

This review is from: Robert B. Parker’s Blind Spot (A Jesse Stone Novel) (Hardcover)
It’s true that it really isn’t written in Parker style. This story goes much deeper into Stone’s thoughts and character. The short, clipped dialogue gives way to a denser storytelling. But the story was really good and the writing was too. It just wasn’t Parker style. If you can adjust, you should go along for the ride.

This review is from: Hound Dog: The Leiber & Stoller Autobiography (Hardcover)
The format, each one bouncing off each other in looking back at their lives, works.
They had some amazing experiences and their accounts are a lot of fun. The book loses a star just because their careers, and the book, taper off at the end. But that still leaves an awful lot of fun hearing from the pair behind so many cool songs. |

This review is from: Midnight in Europe: A Novel (Hardcover)
I would rate this book even lower if it was strictly on the storyline. A lousy plot that advances in a plodding, non-engaging fashion.
But Furst writes so well about Europe so well in the pre World War II period that I enjoyed the atmosphere. |

![]() Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Station Eleven: A novel (Kindle Edition)
Split decision.
I loved the story about people making their way in the world after the flu has caused devastation. It is believable and scary and worth every word. The split screen approach, the back story, is much less involving and isn’t worth it. I would love to have seen this book just deal with the frightening world she has created. |

![]() Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Cybill Disobedience (Kindle Edition)
Cybill has enough juicy parts to make this worth the time. She is honest enough to not always look good,
and she doesn’t hold back much. As these books go, this one is surely worth the bargain bin price I paid to read it. |

![]() Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Hitler’s Furies: German Women in the Nazi Killing Fields (Hardcover)
The author takes a well researched look at the role of women in Hitler’s “furies”.
When the author follows individual characters it can become quite involving and horrifying. When the broader view is taken it becomes a bit dry and scholarly. Was it worth the read? Yes, but not by a landslide. |

![]() Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Conspirata: A Novel of Ancient Rome (Kindle Edition)
Harris is so good. He really makes the world he creates real. In this Rome comes alive and the story
is interesting. Cicero is some character. I look forward to the next one. |

This review is from: The Infinite Sea: The Second Book of the 5th Wave (Hardcover)
Real disappointing. Not much happens, we are in a holding pattern for the finale. And that isn’t good enough.

![]() This review is from: Pillar to the Sky (Hardcover)
I liked his last book. This one was way too techie for me. It was awkward with tons of exposition and speechmaking for dialogue. Only the fascinating premise for the book works. It is all uphill from there.
