Musical theater producers are always looking for a way to package popular music into a play.

Here’s an idea.

I’ve been reading different books about The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Band. A common thread is how the new music from one of them would spur the others on to try newer and better songs.

Admittedly Dylan and The Band were more on the receiving end of influence that in soaking it up, but the back and forth between Brian Wilson and the Beatles is fascinating.

Why not a musical that shared the story and used the music as the connecting thread.

You would get some of the greatest rock songs ever, and some story along with it.

I’m sure the rights to get at the music would be daunting.

But it would be interesting to see how the competition spurred music to our benefit.
