Larry McMurtry died not too long ago.

He wrote a lot of books but nothing compared to Lonesome Dove.

i became obsessed with Lonesome Dove. I recommended it to everybody whoever asked for something to read.

I was so into the characters, I even developed a philosophy built around the Captain and Gus.

In any tight ethical or moral situation, I would ask, what would the Captain and Gus do?

It is hard to separate the book from the televised images of Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall.

Everytime it comes on the screen I’ll watch a chunk if it the right chunk.

After Dove, I never found another McMurtry book that was that good, although some were most enjoyable.

He came fairly close with the Last Picture Show.

But Lonesome Dove has it all.
