Movie snapshots and a grade from this year..
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu. Entertaining from beginning to end. Just enjoy it for the movie istelf, not all the series hoopla. A-.
Backrooms. Really too murky to actually get any pleasure out of watching. I would never watch it again. C.
Passenger. Good enough to make it worth seeing for horror fans. B.
Obsession. Slow start, points for weirdness but not for enjoyability. C.
The Sheep Detectives. So good that it appeals to all ages. Easily one of the best movies of the year that will get no award consideration. A.
Hokum. Clever, fun, suspense, what more can you ask for in a suspense movie. A.
Normal. Our unlikely action hero does it again. A-.
Over Your Dead Body. A lot of fun to watch the improbably but juicy twists and turns. A-.
Eleanor the Great. Sweet spots but I thought the storytelling lie didn’t cut it as a story anchor. C.
Christy. For all its strengths it is hard to watch her being abused and taken advantage of. C+
Thrash. It is just not very good. Not horrible, just not good without an original idea. C.
Undertone. A piece of your life you will never get back. Ending is as bad as it gets. F.
Ready or Not 2. Too surrealistically brutal but a good ending. B-.
Project Hail Mary. Brilliant. A.
Scream 7. Time to wrap it up. I can’t handle one more head shot warning to put down the evil. No mas. C-.
