I heard Black Sabbath doing War Pigs on the radio today.

Many moons ago I was a young disc jockey at my small town radio station.

We played country until 6 p.m. and then rock and roll until 10 p.m.

For fun I used to play my last country song just before 6, maybe Loretta Lynn and Don’t Come Home a Drinkin (actually a good song), and then at six I would give the time and station I.D. and launch into something like War Pigs. It was a fun jarring contrast.

Unfortunately my nighttime listeners, though few in number, began hounding me with requests to play War Pigs night after night.

Finally, in the spirit of guitar stores that would post signs “Play anything but Stairway to Heaven”, I would say “Call in your requests for anything but War Pigs.”

Invariably guest what the first request would be.

Ironically, after all these years and not hearing it often at all, I enjoy it.
