A quick reaction to Oscar winners and losers:

Best Supporting Actress: Allison Janney is a fine actress but her role in I Tonya is one note with no range of any kind. Same problem with Laurie Metcalf in Lady Bird. If I were calling the shots I would reward the chilling Lesley Manville in Phantom Thread or the always wonderful Octavia Spencer in The Shape of Water.

Best Supporting Actor: Rockwell deserved to win.

Best Director: The Shape of Water was very well done but I thought Greta Gerwig was perfect from scene to scene in Lady Bird.

Best Actress: Frances McDormand deserved to win.

Best Actor: Gary Oldman was good enough to win.

Best Picture: I’m going to watch Three Billboards again tonight. I would watch a cooking show before I would watch Shape of Water again tonight.
