After channel surfing and finding National Treasure and stopping cold to watch it for the five thousandth time, it gives me pause.

Out of all the sequels made, the fact that National Treasure never got a third act ranks at the top for the failure to finish up what was so much fun in the first two movies.

They had it all setup. The President shared a life altering secret with Nicolas Cage at the end. We had a fun, good supporting cast all in the place.

I presume the problem was the unpredictable Cage, who no doubt balked and made it impossible and who also couldn’t be replaced.

I don’t know how good it would be but if the same writers and director and cast were in it, I would have gone to the theater with much anticipation.

I wouldn’t go so far as to call the first two movies a national treasure, but they sure were a big, enduring pleasure.
