Caitlin Clark is a lightning rod and a columnist for USA Today lit the spark recently.

Nancy Armour pointed out how Caitlin complains too much on calls, which is true, but then she went off on making a link with Clark at the All Star Game in Chicago where Emmett Till was lynched, exacerbating racial tensions in the WNBA.

A lot of people, not just Caitlin fanatics, found it inappropriate, some even calling for her firing.

Armour, a very political and very progressive sports columnist issued a weak “clarification” calling her linkage of Clark and Till “inartful.” How is that for chickenshit?

The reason all this caught me eye is some years back I noticed that in the WNBA playoffs a player was not playing for “personal reasons.”

Knowing what an advocate she is for female representation, I emailed her that as a big fan of the WNBA and a strong believer in equal rights for women athletes, journalism coverage should press the team of the player who is out for personal reasons for some more information.

She answered me in a curt, unpleasant tone, that nobody asked when Tom Brady did not play for personal reasons.

I was flabbergasted. Brady missed a couple exhibition games. I politely pointed out the lack of balance in comparing an exhibition game with a playoff game for the championship.

She replied nasty again that she didn’t understand what I was talking about.

I shook my head, gave up, said I was ending the exchange and wished her well.

She didn’t exactly lineup my support when she stubbed her toe on that linkage recently.
